Recorder Marietta Real has been a Union member for 24 years and began working for the Union in November of 2000. Marietta began working in the Local Union’s Fund Administrative Departments where she worked on the administrative duties related to updating Collective Bargaining Agreements; various administrative duties related to the Annuity Funds; duties related to processing H&W claims and benefit administration as well as overall Member Services; all of which was geared towards helping our Union Members understand the various Union Benefits that applied to them in their respective contracts . Over her 24 years Marietta has held virtually every administrative role in the Fund departments of the Local Union.
In 2012, Marietta was promoted to the position of Executive Assistant and since then has continued to grow in her overall administrative and Union experience over the years, being promoted to Director of Office & Building Services where she handles many of the duties related to the day-to-day operation of the Local Union and interacting with the UFCW International Union on the various functions related to the employment of Union Staff, who work on behalf of the Local 2013 Members.
In June of 2015 she was elected as a Staff Vice President to the Executive Board of Local 2013 where, as the longest serving Staff VP, she has continued to assist in redefining the role of UFCW Local 2013 in representing our members.
In July of 2018 President Carotenuto appointed Vice President Real to an unexpired term in the role of Recorder on the UFCW Local 2013 Executive Board; as the Executive VP & Recorder, she continues to grow in her Union experience and her dedication to ensuring the rights of the thousands of Local 2013 members are protected. In 2020during the COVID Pandemic Marietta was one of the people who continued to come into the office each day, even when everything else in NYC was ordered shutdown; her dedication played a key role in keeping the Local Union office functioning/running and ensuring that member inquiries and needs were addressed in a timely manner. All of this ensured that office administrative functions continued without missing a beat, acting as the liaison between Members and Staff Representative; as well as being responsible to implement new office guidelines & regulations issued by NYS related to the COVID Pandemic assuring they would be adhered to so that the Local continued to operate on behalf of the membership.
