Freddie Salgado

Union Representative

Freddie Salgado served in the United States Marine Corp as a young man where he developed a strong sense of Unity & Solidarity for those he was associated with – depending on one another and having each other’s backs.

After serving in the military, he went out to work and made his way in the world and supported his family. Freddie has been a Union member since 2007 working as a Driver for one of the Local Union’s shops in the Food Service Industry. While working in this Union Shop, he became active in the Union by regularly attending Union meetings and exhibiting a desire to help his co-workers understand their rights under their Collective Bargaining Agreement and eventually, he became a Shop Steward where he dug into his past service of helping others and working as a team assisting in day-to-day contract enforcement and at one point he even served on his local Union Executive Board.

In August of 2016 he was later hired into UFCW Local 2013 as a Union Representative where he has expanded his knowledge and experience representing Union Members across a wide range of industries; in his current role Representative Salgado is involved in Grievance handling and Conflict Resolution where he has worked to resolve and settle issues under the CBA at earliest possible stages. He has participated in various organizing and bargaining training conducted both internally within the Local & International Union as well as some sponsored by the AFL-CIO to expand his skill set which enables him to routinely participate in bargaining of the contracts assigned to him along with the Director of Collective Bargaining. Representative Salgado has participated in both Mediation and Arbitration hearings on behalf of affected Union Members in protecting their rights under the terms & conditions of their Union Contracts. Freddie believes Unions are essential to today’s frontline workers; “The Union is everything in a working environment… members working together, fighting for respect & dignity in a safe workplace with better benefits – THAT’s a UNION‘!
