UFCW Local 2013

Wavney King

Wavney King

Union Representative/Staff Vice President

Sister Wavney King has been a Union member since 2006 working as a Caregiver in the Home Health Aide industry and has been active in the Union as a Shop Steward for many years.

In early 2012 after showing great concern in her Union, Wavney was asked by the UFCW Region I Director to come on as a liaison between the Local and the members as we worked to redefine and rebuild the Local Union.

She was permanently hired as a Staff Representative Trainee in the later part of 2012. Over the years, the drive, concern and compassion that “Wavney” brought to work we do in representing the Members of Local 2013 has always been evident. During her time as a Union Representative Wavney has grown in her knowledge and experience; she has resolved MANY grievance issues over the years and helped to obtain monetary settlements for workers who were wrongfully terminated as well as getting others back to work when it was able to be jointly negotiated as the best remedy.

Representative King was asked if she’d like to get more involved at higher levels by participating in bargaining – and she was anxious to do so, Representative King attended higher level trainings offered through the UFCW International programs in the area of Collective Bargaining where she has put those skills to good use on behalf of the members she represents during contract negotiation. Wavney is very connected to the members in general, but especially to those in shops assigned to her. Representative King has moved many members over the years to participate in other important issues as well, by getting them to attend UFCW Lobby Days in Albany where our members are able to connect with Elected Officials who are working on important issues which impact them in their work and in their everyday lives at home.

Representative King also serves in the important role of Staff Vice President on the Local 2013 Executive Board where she brings a solid work ethic of going above-and-beyond on a daily basis, with each and every member she represents; in her own words – “All of our members should be respected & treated with dignity – they work hard every day and deserve to be valued”!
